Urban Academy's story began in 2012 with the vision and dedication of Mr. Chris Cronjé and Mrs. Carien Cronjé. As the founders and current Director-Rector and Director, respectively, their commitment to fostering an environment of academic excellence and holistic development laid the foundation for what has become a thriving educational institution. Our Port Elizabeth campus, affectionately known as the City Campus, has been a cornerstone of our success and growth over the past 12 years.

In 2021, we expanded our vision to the Despatch with the opening of our Main Campus. Under the guidance and vision of Dr. Estienne Cronjé, this campus has quickly established itself as the Urban Academy hub of innovative learning, sports achievements, and community engagement. The Despatch Campus, or Urban Academy Main Campus, further enriches our offerings and strengthens our commitment to providing outstanding education to a diverse student body.

At Urban Academy, our mission is to cultivate a love for learning within a nurturing and stimulating environment. We believe that academic excellence goes hand-in-hand with personal growth and well-being. Our vision is to create a school where each student is inspired to achieve their highest potential, both academically and personally, while being grounded in values of respect, integrity, and responsibility.

Our picturesque campus is home to some of the most beautiful sporting grounds and facilities in the province. From soccer fields to tennis courts, and swimming pools to athletics tracks, our state-of-the-art sports facilities provide students with ample opportunities to excel in a wide range of sports.

In addition to our sporting excellence, we offer a rich array of cultural programs that celebrate the diverse talents and interests of our students. Whether it's music, drama, or visual arts, our cultural programs are designed to enrich the student experience and foster creativity.

Starting in 2025, we are excited to introduce Agricultural Studies into our curriculum. Our spacious greenhouse, open gardens, and livestock facilities will offer students hands-on learning experiences in agriculture. Students will have the opportunity to grow their own food, which will be used to support the school community and local needs. In conjunction with Business Studies, they will also learn about the economic aspects of agriculture, including the sale of produce and profit management.

With over 1,200 learners currently enrolled, Urban Academy is a vibrant and diverse community where every student is valued and encouraged to thrive. Our dedicated team of educators and staff are committed to providing a supportive and enriching environment that fosters both academic and personal growth.

As we celebrate our 12th anniversary in 2024, we reflect on our achievements and look forward to the future with excitement. We remain steadfast in our commitment to providing exceptional education and opportunities for our students. Our expansion into new areas and the enhancement of our facilities are testaments to our ongoing dedication to excellence and innovation in education.
